1. Our Services

RentBuddy provides tools that help you securely collect, verify, and share your personal and financial information — including identity documents, credit union data, and bank account information — with landlords or property managers when applying for an apartment. We are not a credit bureau, financial institution, or real estate broker.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a contract to use our Services. By using RentBuddy, you represent and warrant that the information you provide is truthful, accurate, and yours to share.

3. Account Registration

To use certain features, you may be required to create an account. You agree to keep your login credentials secure and not share access to your account. You are responsible for all activity on your account.

4. User Consent for Data Access

By using our Services, you authorize RentBuddy to collect and process information from:

• Your bank accounts or credit unions (via third-party integrations such as Plaid or similar services),
• Government-issued identity documents,
• Employment or income verification services, and
• Any other data sources you explicitly connect.

You understand and agree that RentBuddy will only access this information with your consent, and solely for the purpose of helping you apply for housing.

5. Sharing Your Information

You have full control over who you share your profile and financial information with. RentBuddy does not share your data with landlords or third parties without your explicit action (e.g., submitting a rental application or sharing a link).

6. Third-Party Services

Our Services may rely on or link to third-party services (e.g., Plaid, Firebase, identity verification APIs). Your use of those services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies, which we do not control.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Services for any unlawful or fraudulent purpose,
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity,
• Reverse-engineer or interfere with the functionality of the Services.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, branding, software, and intellectual property in the Services are owned by or licensed to RentBuddy. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Services at any time. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or misuse the platform. Upon termination, we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Services are provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties, express or implied, including that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, RentBuddy is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Services — including, but not limited to, denied apartment applications, loss of data, or security breaches beyond our control.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law principles.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you (e.g., via email or in-app notification). Your continued use of the Services after the changes become effective means you accept the updated Terms.
